Rockers For Renee Keel Rock Chicago!
KBAD’s “Metal Cowgirl”, Renee Keel (wife of Ron Keel) has been fighting a very public battle with cancer. Ron and a few of his rock star friends got together outside Chicago last Thursday night (March 12) to play a benefit for Renee filled with music and love.
When Renee was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer late last year, friends from around the world wanted to know what they could do to help the Keel’s. A Facebook page, Rockers 4 Renee was established; a cancer fund was set up through PayPal; and the power couple started keeping an online blog to keep fans and friends alike informed on what was going on during this journey.
Ron tells me that there was a great crowd of appreciative and generous fans from across the country that turned out for the event as the artists donated time and merchandise sales to help with the mounting bills that the Keel’s are dealing with during treatment. Ron was busy working the merchandise tables while getting a steady stream of well wishes and hugs. It sounds like a successful, emotional night. I know this was just the first of several benefit concerts planned. We’ll let you know when the next one is planned and when it will be held. In the meantime, you can use the links above to help in any way you may be able to. I know they are truly touched by the outpouring of support.
One of my favorite photos, courtesy of Jim Obos, who shot the show at the Loaded Buffalo was of Ron Facetiming Renee from the stage. Great shots Jim and thank you!
